Spiritual gifts always accompany faith

I told my missionary daughter in my weekly letter yesterday that "spiritual gifts always accompany faith."  I took this from the heading in Chapter 10 of Moroni in the Book of Mormon.  Over the years, I have pondered, "What are the gifts of the spirit"?  Is there some magical list?  I know that there are three good sources that provide partial answers. You can read the 12th Chapter of I Corinthians, Chapter 10 of Moroni or the 46th Section of the Doctrine & Covenants.  But, I have heard many more gifts mentioned in talks and just pondering. For instance, David A. Bednar, a new member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, spoke about a gift called "Quick to Observe".  See his talk here.  If you take some time to ponder spiritual gifts, you will start to understand how many there really are in this life.

Today, our ward had our annual Primary Program. I observed a spiritual gift I never clearly understood before.  Seated on the front row on the stand, were some little children. One little boy who has some challenges in life was sitting on his teacher's lap. He was quite content. She has been his Primary teacher for at least two years. In January 2012, this little boy moved to a different class. His teacher moved with him because of his comfort level with her. It was obvious watching them that he loves her and she loves him. He left the stand for a bit and went outside of the chapel. His mother brought him back into the meeting and he went back up onto the stand and promptly sat on his teacher's lap. She has a gift. She has the ability to calm him and understand his needs. She has a gift to be able to give the family some "breathing room" during the day. Why are some people so adept or able to bless other lives with this type of gift? A long time ago, I applied for a job that would have required me to work with people who had tested out with an IQ of 0-10.  They were tied into their wheelchairs with straps so as not to fall out. I did not take the job as I felt I couldn't handle such a challenge.  I might be able to do it today but still am not willing to try. But this wonderful teacher is a blessing in the life of this family. She is sharing their challenges and providing a "comfortable" place for this young boy.  She has faith in Christ to be able to fulfill her potential as a teacher and to be able to rise to level of being a solution to a challenge.  The family had and has faith in Christ that someone would be called to be able to help their son.  Like Moroni intimates, "Spiritual gifts always accompany faith."
What a great meeting and a wonderful feeling enveloped my heart and spirit as I watched the two of them today.
