Twilight Movie Review

As you all know, I went to the Twilight midnight premiere this last week and let me just say, WOW! It was crazy finally seeing it on the big screen. I've been reading a lot of the reviews lately from both the critics and actual fans of the books and there have been a ton of mixed feelings. I, overall, love the movie. Sure it's not as good as the book (no movie adaption ever is) but it has all of the pivotal scenes from Twilight. In my opinion, it is a very faithful adaption. I went into the theater expecting it to be a strictly romance and drama/horror film but it was actually quite a funny movie. A lot of the humor were inside jokes that only those who have read Twilight would understand but some lines were more universal. Another thing that I loved was the music. When I first got the soundtrack I had doubts as to how some of the songs would fit into the movie but now that I've seen it, all those fears have been washed away. The songs all blended well into the scenes and added an extra something to them. I absolutely loved the minor characters of Mike, Charlie and Angela. The actors who played them were fabulous and made their character just pop out of scene. They were all very memorable especially Charlie. Every single scene Charlie was in I was laughing my head off. I actually like the movie adaption of Charlie better than the Charlie in the book, which is really odd. Emmett and Jasper were also very lovable characters. I wish I could tell you why exactly I loved them so much but of course that would spoil it for those who haven't seen it. Jacob was also amazing in the few scenes he is in. I can't wait until New Moon (the movie) comes out so that he can chop off his long hair. It doesn't really do him justice. I saw a picture of the Jacob actor (Taylor Launter) when he was like 15 or 16 and he seriously had a eight pack!!! It was crazy! I mean how many 15 year olds do you know that have an eight pack?!

Some of my favorite scenes include the Biology scene when Edward first gets a whiff of Bella, the baseball game, the ballet studio scene and, of course, the kiss. The villains James and Victoria were absolutely perfect for their roles! I literally got chills when I first saw them and I could truly believe that they were really evil vampires. I can't wait to see more of Victoria in the next two movies. Too bad James had to die in Twilight. I really would have loved to stare at him a bit more. ; ) However, despite all the countless things I loved about the movie, there were bound to be some faults. I felt the romance was a bit too fast and the special effects were cheesy but all this is to be expected when you have to make a 500+ page book into a two hour movie and you have a really low budget. I heard they made the movie with only $37 million ! I know this may seem like a lot especially to you Rachel but in the movie industry this is really, really low. Summit had over $100 million less than the first Harry Potter movie to spend which I find so unreasonable. But on the bright side Summit made $37 million on opening day (14th best in movie history) and now have over $77.5 million. All I can say is someone is going to make bank on this movie and they better give New Moon a HUGO-MONGOUS raise! (Thanks Dallin for the new vocab!) There are some other things that Summit had control over that should have been different. For example, I was not very happy when Edward played Bella's lullaby because they didn't explain what it was at all. The fact that Edward can play the piano so well and write Bella a lullaby just for her is one of the main reasons I love him so much and now everyone who sees the movie without reading the books won't understand. I also was not thrilled with the meadow scene or the way Edward sparkled but it wasn't a complete disaster. I still can't wrap my mind around Edward flying/climbing in the trees with Bella on his back but, I can't deny that it was a cool shot when they were at the top of the tree. So, overall, I give this movie an 9.0. There's room for improvement but lots to love and drool over! ; ) Also as a side note: I had a really hard time writing this because it's all so general but if you want to talk about the specifics, call me when you see it! Oh and Rachel, I don't care what you say, you are coming to see Twilight with Mom, Jenny, Melissa, Matt and me. It'll be fun and it is only for two hours of your life. Well, I love you all and can't wait to see most of you next week!!!!
