I want to see Mommy

On 3/12/10, we heard the sad news of the death of someone we knew well. She was only 35 years old. She is a mother of four children (ages 3 1/2 to 16 years) and a wife. Her husband has been out of work for almost six months. She has been working 16 hour days (double shifts) for six to seven days a week so they can make ends meet. She died sometime during the night while sleeping.

We attended the viewing tonight. We know all the family members. She had three sisters. So, it was like our family (four daughters). We wept at the difficulty and sadness of the occasion. Hugs were given and received. Words were not adequate to express our thoughts and feelings. She looked peaceful dressed in white.

I thought of the Family Proclamation given in September 1995. Here is a phrase from the proclamation that I believe with all my heart:

"The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally."

We had a chance to visit with her Mother and view the body and talk about her daughter. We visited with her husband for a few short minutes. As we turned to leave, his youngest daughter (age 3 1/2 with strawberry blond hair) came running up to her Daddy.

"Daddy, Daddy, I want to see Mommy." And so, he lifted her up to see Mommy.

My heart is so sad.

Now I'm crying. I feel so bad for her husband and her kids. I hope Heavenly Father will bless them with what they need and want.

I cried too, and then when I read this a few minutes later (in that book you gave me Dad) I had to come back and share it. It's so true.

"Even when love wounds us, that is because love matters so much. The deep hurt is the mirror image of the deep joy that still awaits us. The ache we feel wouldn't be so bad if it didn't come from something so good.

Our longing to belong forever to a loving family comes from God, and He has promised its fulfillmetn, if we are faithful: "For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness" (Psalm 107:9. His promise is sure."_-Bruce C. Hafen
